25 Days of Advent Reflections & Commentary – Day 18
A Foreshadowing of Christ
In today’s lesson of the 25 Days of Advent Bible Study Series, we discovered the foretelling of the Messiah as being the coming of Elijah (Malachi 4:5-6):
This is later fulfilled in the New Testament.
Here’s what we know in this Scripture:
Elijah represented one of the greatest, most powerful prophets of all time.
He performed great miracles, operated under the power of the Holy Spirit, and even ascended into heaven in a chariot.
Jesus needed to come and fulfill the law of the prophets, operate under the same mantle as Elijah, even ascending into heaven.
Elijah was also a foreshadowing of Christ. He showed us the powerful way we could operate under the power of the Holy Spirit doing the work of the Kingdom of God.
25 Days of Advent Prayer – Day 18
Pray this with me for our 25 Days of Advent Prayer:
Dear Lord, I thank you for your fulfillment of Malachi 4:5-6.
Jesus the Messiah was prophesied about in this Scripture as being the coming of Elijah.
God, thank you for Jesus coming to fulfill all that Elijah established and for Elijah being a preview of His divine departure by way of His resurrection and ascension into Heaven.
From great power, great authority, and great miracles – Jesus fulfilled them all! He is the fulfillment of the Law of the Prophets.
May our hearts keep the focus on Christ’s birth, purpose, and fulfillment during this Holy Season.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
