The 90-Hour Work Week

Happiest Friday! 🙂

My husband, Michael, is always finding the best articles or books to read. One of this latest finds was this article about the work habits of high profile, highly successful people. The article went on to talk about the number of hours they work a week. In many cases they were working a 90-hour work week!
So he and I got into this discussion of “Is it really worth it?” You know, to work all of those hours, in order have to the high profile, highly successful life these people were living. Here’s what our conversation boiled down to:
What is your personal success?
What kind of lifestyle you want to live?
What sacrifices are you willing make?
What are your boundaries?
For me, working 90+ hours is simply inconceivable! There’s no way I’d work like that (at least not for an extended period of time). Here’s why – there’s no amount of success that’s worth it. It’s unhealthy, crazy, and completely outside of how God designed us to work. Our bodies need rest and rejuvenation. That can’t happen working a 90-hour work week.
Here’s what I’ve found…many women business owners, can easily get into this place of working our brains out. Let me tell you (because I’ve been there, done that) it’s not worth it. Ever.
This kind of working often comes from a place of fear and unrest. Now, I’m not advocating that you don’t hustle, work smart, have goals, and do what you can to meet those goals. I am advocating that you do so within reason.
So this brings up the whole idea of; “Should you work weekends, while building your business, especially if you currently work a 9-5 job?” Yes and No.
Look, I get it! As a former public school educator, turned home educator, wife and mother of 5, who also runs a business from home, there are only so many hours during the weekday. If you’re going to start and grow a biz, you may have to spend some time on the weekend on your business.
However…
You should not spend your ENTIRE weekend on your business.
I really believe you should take time to be with your family, have fun, and enjoy life! This doesn’t mean you aren’t hustling or serious about your business. What it is saying is that you trust God and have faith in the work you’ve done and His ability to bring your business success and profits.
Try this!
Decide the hours you will be working this weekend. Ask God to grant you favor and grace that your 1 or 2 hours of work are maximize to do 2-4 hours of work. YES! Ask God to double and triple your work efforts. Set a timer and work. When your timer goes off. STOP. Get up from your kitchen table (or desk) and be done.
This is called Faith in Business!
Please, reply and let me know how this strategy works for you!
I will be working this weekend. I am recording my very first episode for my new TV Show. (It’ll be released in the coming weeks!! Stay tuned. WHOOHOO!!) And I’m doing more planning and preparations for my Live Class – Business Launch Formula. (I’m looking forward to seeing you in class.) https://proverbs31businesswoman.com/business-launch-formula/
Whatever your plans are, I pray you have a restful, relaxing, and rejuvenating weekend. Have fun! Enjoy yourself and your family!
