Our daily Scripture reading for the 25 Days of Advent Bible Study Series is Luke 1:57-66:

The Birth of John the Baptist

⁵⁷Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. ⁵⁸And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. ⁵⁹And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child. And they would have called him Zechariah after his father, ⁶⁰but his mother answered, “No; he shall be called John.” ⁶¹And they said to her, “None of your relatives is called by this name.” ⁶²And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he wanted him to be called. ⁶³And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they all wondered. ⁶⁴And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God. ⁶⁵And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea, ⁶⁶and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, “What then will this child be?” For the hand of the Lord was with him.

25 Days of Advent Reflections & Commentary – Day 23

The Birth of John The Baptist

In today’s lesson of the 25 Days of Advent Bible Study Series, we will be studying about the fulfillment of the birth of John the Baptist – the forerunner for Jesus (Luke 1:57-66):

John the Baptist is born and Scripture has been fulfilled!!

What’s also so amazing is that Zechariah’s mouth is opened after he writes down the name of his son. The people marveled and wondered what would become of John and the kind of impact he’d have on the world.

Just think about it! Zechariah had been mute for at least 9 months and suddenly his mouth was opened after he named his son, as told to him by Gabriel. What a miracle!

Let’s be sensitive and discerning of the forerunners of the world. They have such huge roles to play in the Body of Christ.

25 Days of Advent Prayer – Day 23

Pray this with me for our 25 Days of Advent Prayer:

Dear Lord, I thank you for your fulfillment of Luke 1:57-66.

This is a constant reminder of the sacredness of the birth of Jesus, the Messiah, which was prophesied about previously. This Scripture is the fulfillment of those prophecies.

Thank you for birthing forerunners and message bearers. Our society deeply needs them to prepare the way and to speak to the signs of the times.

Help me to be sensitive and mindful of their role and impact in the Body of Christ and the burden they carry for Your truth and love towards mankind.

May our hearts keep the focus on Christ’s birth, purpose, and fulfillment, during this Holy Season.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
