Today is Day 2 of the 25 Days of Advent Bible Study Series and we will be looking at the foretelling of Christ as the Star out of Jacob.

25 Days of Advent Daily Scripture Reading – Day 2

Our daily Scripture reading for the 25 Days of Advent Bible Study Series is Numbers 24:17-19:

¹⁷ I see him, but not now;
    I behold him, but not near:
a star shall come out of Jacob,
    and a scepter shall rise out of Israel;
it shall crush the forehead^[c] of Moab
    and break down all the sons of Sheth.
¹⁸ Edom shall be dispossessed;
    Seir also, his enemies, shall be dispossessed.
    Israel is doing valiantly.
¹⁹ And one from Jacob shall exercise dominion
    and destroy the survivors of cities!”

25 Days of Advent Reflections & Commentary – Day 2

A Star Out of Jacob

In today’s lesson of the 25 Days of Advent Bible Study Series, we discovered the foretelling of the Messiah being the Star out of Jacob (Numbers 24:17-19).

This is later fulfilled in the New Testament.

Here’s what we know in this Scripture:

One of the non-Israelite prophets begins to make his final oracle to the people of Israel. In this prophecy, he speaks about the Messiah coming out of a Star of Jacob.

What we discover later on in Scripture are three things:

1. Jesus is from the lineage of Jacob
2. That this “star” is actually the star the Magi (or Wise Men) follow to get to him.
3. The Messiah is the King of Kings who indeed crushes the head of the enemies of Israel and exercises complete dominion in all of the earth.

Because of the birth, life, and resurrection of Christ our enemies are defeated – no, CRUSHED!! And as children of God and joint-heirs with Christ, we get to exercise dominion over the earth as Kingdom citizens!

25 Days of Advent Prayer – Day 2

Pray this with me for our 25 Days of Advent Prayer:

Dear Lord, I thank you for your fulfillment of Numbers 24:17-19.

Jesus the Messiah was prophesied about in this Scripture as being the Star of Jacob that will crush Israel’s enemies and exercise dominion over the earth.

Because of this we have full dominion, power, and privilege to walk boldly as your children here on the earth. The enemies of God cannot rise up against us. Instead, Jesus renders them powerless and we are powerful in Him.

May our hearts keep the focus on Christ’s birth, purpose, and fulfillment during this Holy Season.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
