Proverbs 31 Woman Bible Study – Day 10 Overview
Being Prepared For The Seasons Of Life
A big theme and character trait, in this scripture, is “preparedness.”
Imagine how prepared the Proverbs 31 Woman had to be so that her household was prepared for the snow!
It generally snows during the winter season, which is the harshest of seasons.
It’s cold.
It’s dry.
It’s brutal.
Yet she was prepared!
Think for a moment about how our grandparents (and maybe some of you) can all of summer’s fruit and vegetable bounty! They did this to prepare for the winter and to have food all throughout the year.
They had no reason to fear winter or lean times because there was a stockpile of food for their families.
Consider how you are preparing your family for the winter and possible lean times ahead. Be like the Proverbs 31 Woman who is not afraid because she was prepared!
The Meaning of Scarlet
So then, what’s the reason the Proverbs 31 Woman wasn’t afraid? Because her household is clothed in scarlet!
What is Scarlet? Why was it so significant in this scripture?
- Fabric is made from wool
- Woven in a certain way by twisting it
- It was used for stockings and socks
In other words, her household is clothed in “winter gear” for those harsh winter months! She basically used the wool from verse 13 and then got to work on the distaff, in verse 19 to make scarlet or garments to be worn in the winter.
Once again, we see a recurring message of this woman’s resourcefulness!
Are you starting to see how the character traits of the Proverbs 31 Woman are being woven together seamlessly? I hope so!
She Dressed Herself (Not Like The World)
The Proverbs 31 Woman dressed herself and did not allow the world dictate how she should dress. . .yet stayed trendy and fashionable!
This is VERY important!
I know, in our modern culture, it is a struggle to find clothing that is trendy and modest, without looking frumpty dumpty.
I totally get it.
It’s a struggle.
However, it is DOABLE!
It may mean you have to get creative and savvy with your clothing choices and even how you assemble your items together.
Here are a few good suggestions of ways you can accomplish this:
- Wear camisoles underneath low cut or thin tops
- Consider layering with cardigans and blazers
- Look for tops that have flared or layered ends so they disguise your bottom
- Always walk around and sit down in your skirt to see if it will rise too high
- Just say no to camel toe! *wink* LOL
Here’s a BIG CHALLENGE for you! Consider going through your clothing and asking the Holy Spirit if it is something you should be wearing? Does it represent you? Does it draw the wrong kind of attention? Etc.
He may lead you to modify it somehow, give it away, or throw it away. Whatever He speaks to you, listen! Remember, obedience is better than sacrifice!
Here are the big two takeaways from today’s lesson:
Always think about…
. . . am I preparing myself for the winter seasons? Hard times ahead?
Keep in mind, you are preparing your spirit for the rough times. It’s not a reason to be afraid because you’ll prepared!
. . . am I dressing with modesty class?
Your clothing choices speak oftentimes of the condition of your heart. You want it to be speaking what’s true about you and your relationship with Christ!

Just finished day 10. Being prepared for the winter is good, and as for spiritually, my hubby & I do pray together & we will add special prayers for each season…I love this! Also, as for dressing modestly, I always have since I was a child, I love cardigans, sweaters, scarves & layers. I have worked mostly in an office atmosphere, so modest & professional has always been my attire. But now at home as a housewife, I am more casual, but still enjoy dressing professional to run errands or have lunch with my hubby☺ My husband’s clothing is also very well taken care of. But, what I can work on is going thru my closet & setting aside clothes I don’t wear anymore & donate. I will also encourage my sons to be prepared! I really loved today’s bible study & scripture. I am inspired! Thank you & God Bless you

Having a respectful, spiritual mind would not let you dress out of respect. Being prepared shows what type of woman you are and it reflects back on you and your household. Being prepared for the season should always be first on your agenda.
Shelita M Adams says

This Bible Study for Proverb 31 is a prayer answered for me. I am excited reading and learning as well as applying. The seed was there but was not growing at the level and understanding that I know I needed in order to be in a better position of readiness as a Proverbs 31 Woman. I thank you for your beautiful gift of enrichment!
Angelica says
I’m so glad it is blessing you, Tammy!
Venus says
This reading is one of my favorites. Sometimes it is not easy to figure out a Christian women from an unsaved women. I totally agree we should care about our attire, if its too revealing, too low, too short and definitely too tight. Men are wired by sight and we shouldn’t want a man to lust when he look at us. We should prefer a man to look at us with respect, dignity and integrity.
Felicia says
This is what I am working on too…throwing away or giving away clothes that I have not worn in years! OBEDIENCE!!! Being prepared is key. Thank you!!!
PAMELA BLOOMFIELD says
this women is so prepared, she thinks ahead. She is disciplined and committed to her role ,she has confidence in herself, all the things we gain when we focus on Jesus. Preparation is the keyword for me today . blessings
Raven Cheyenne says
Just want to write to you and let you know this has been very helpful. At the beginning of a season I go through my clothes and weed out what I no longer need or want. I like the perspective that we should prepare for the spiritual seasons of our lives because they do come whether we like it or not. Also, I like that fact that we as Christian women should be modest in our attire. We can still be fashionable and attractive and still keep that aura of mystery.
Lorraine says
Prov.31:21-22-‐–awesome!! Being prepared is key! This woman is not afraid of snow, because her household is prepared. She has taken care of her family, she has made sure their winter clothes were cleaned and darned. Made sure their coats hats, clothing were in good shape, and also dressing herself warmly as well!
Linda says
This Proverb 31 lesson h a been blessing my life, it has been truly an inspiration and a blessing.
